Our Story
The space itself has a story. Established by husband-and-wife team Mike and Tanya Metaxa, ArtHouse Tattoo has spent over a decade becoming a quintessential part of Austin’s culture and creative fabric. We call home a two-story house that, much like so many Austinites, wasn’t born here — it was moved to Austin from across Texas, carrying its own history along with it. We renovated it from the ground up, pouring our vision and energy into every corner, and made it entirely ours. Today, two creative worlds share its walls: ArtHouse Tattoo, where Mike does what he does best, and Tanya Eivin Photography, where Tanya does the same. Part studio, part gallery, part refuge from the ordinary — and if you ask nicely, someone might tell you about the previous tenants who, rumor has it, never really left.
The ArtHouse Way
Inside the ArtHouse world, a quiet revolution and community-building simultaneously take place. We rebel against poor craftsmanship, mediocre artistic choices, and profit-first decisions when it comes to body art. A tattoo is not something you can draw, then magically erase later. It lives on the only skin you have, and it deserves to be done right. We are building a community of body art enthusiasts who have a genuine appreciation for the craft — people who understand that the relationship between an artist and a client is built on trust and comfort, not on price. Because you should walk away not just with a tattoo, but with a piece of art you will still love many years from now.
A Cause Close to Our Hearts
We are also a small business with a cause. As proud Austinites and animal lovers, over the years we have partnered with multiple animal shelters, like Austin Pets Alive!, Austin Humane Society, and others, raising thousands of dollars in donations for them through our Cause for Paws Tattoopalooza events. Giving back to the community that welcomed us and has given us so much is in our blood — it’s simply part of who we are.
